I’m Joining Automattic

I’m thrilled to announce that I’m joining Automattic as a UI Designer, the company behind WordPress.com, and a variety of awesome products including Gravatar, Jetpack, Akismet, Simplenote, and many more. WordPress powers more than 22% of the top 10 million Websites as of August 2013 and is one of the top Websites in the world. Notable sites that are powered by WordPress include CNN, The New York Times, Reuters, Sony, eBay, and many more. How impressive is that! Though making a huge impact, Automattic has a relatively small and distributed team so everyone works from their own home or office from all over the world including California, Texas, New York, Japan, Australia, Iceland, Bulgaria, and more.

Lots of reasons to be excited about including:

  • I still get to do what I love!
  • Having the opportunity to work for such a great company, full of talented and inspiring people, passionate in making the Web a better place.
  • I’ve been using WordPress for a very long time now (ever since my very first blog and the previous versions of this site), not only for personal projects, but also for clients I’ve worked with in the past. To not just use this powerful tool, but to be able to contribute to it as well is very exciting.
  • Zero commute. I’ll be working from home or anywhere I want.
  • The opportunity to travel for Automattic team meetups and related events.
  • Lots of other great benefits.

WordPress

I will never stop learning. / I won’t just work on things that are assigned to me. / I know there’s no such thing as a status quo. / I will build our business sustainably through passionate and loyal customers. / I will never pass up an opportunity to help out a colleague, and I’ll remember the days before I knew everything. / I am more motivated by impact than money, and I know that Open Source is one of the most powerful ideas of our generation. / I will communicate as much as possible, because it’s the oxygen of a distributed company. / I am in a marathon, not a sprint, and no matter how far away the goal is, the only way to get there is by putting one foot in front of another every day. / Given time, there is no problem that’s insurmountable.

Can’t wait to get started! I also posted a shot on Dribbble about it!
